Access to Success

Access to Success is a 13-week program for youth facing barriers to employment, combining three weeks of paid pre-employment workshops with a 10-week paid job placement at a local employer. Participants earn an hourly wage throughout the program, receive certification training (including First Aid & CPR, WHMIS, National Safe Food Handling, and Smart Serve), and get ongoing support from employment counsellors from start to finish.

13-week program:

  • 3 weeks of pre-employment workshops (in person) at the St. Catharines John Howard Society of Niagara office: Monday to Friday from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm, 25 hours per week.
  • 10 weeks at a job placement – up to 30 hours per week paid by employer; JHS reimburses employer for the amount of hours worked at $17.60 per hour.
  • Participants will receive an hourly wage for all pre-employment sessions and job placement
  • Pre-employment and life skill training is provided to prepare for and maintain job placements

Who is eligible:

  • Between the ages of 15 and 30
  • Not attending school full time
  • Having a difficult time securing employment for various reasons

Transportation support to attend in-person workshops can be provided for individuals outside of St. Catharines.
