Tom Hanrahan
Tom Hanrahan is Chair of the JHSN Board of Directors and has been a Board member since 2014. Tom is a Barrister & Solicitor and senior partner at Sullivan Mahoney LLP in St Catharines. In the early part of his career, Tom acted as defence counsel, working closely with the JHSN Bail Verification & Supervision Program. This connection with JHSN led Tom to join the Board, and he is proud to support and advance the mission of the JHSN through its various programs and community resources.

Simone Lammers
Simone Lammers
Simone Lammers is the Vice-Chair of the John Howard Society of Niagara Board of Directors and has proudly served on the Board for the past four years. A proud alumna of Brock University, Simone has dedicated more than 15 years to the employment services sector, building her career within the non-profit community and supporting individuals facing complex and sensitive barriers to employment.
As Manager, Student Talent Coaching & Engagement within Brock University’s Co-op Education program, Simone leads a team of professionals who support students in developing meaningful career pathways and achieving their professional goals. Her experience in workforce development, coaching, and community engagement has equipped her with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing diverse populations.
A lifelong resident of the Niagara Region, Simone is deeply committed to strengthening her community and advocating for vulnerable populations. She is passionate about creating opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential and is dedicated to making a positive and lasting impact across the Niagara region.

Darryl Veld
Darryl Veld
Darryl Veld is an accomplished strategic leader and educator dedicated to community well-being and conflict resolution. He holds a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration, bringing a strong foundation of legal and business acumen to his diverse roles. Darryl currently serves as the Director of Student Affairs at Brock University, where he oversees student conduct, mental wellbeing, and restorative justice practices, and also shares his expertise as a Corporate Law Professor in the university’s MBA and undergraduate programs. As the founder and principal mediator of Niagara Mediation, he provides trusted dispute resolution services across the region. Deeply invested in local governance, Darryl contributes his strategic leadership as a Chair of the Business Licence Appeal Committee for the Regional Municipality of Niagara and as the Vice Chair of PenFinancial Credit Union.

Gloria McKinnon
Gloria McKinnon
Gloria has been a part of John Howard Society of Niagara for many years as an Executive Assistant. She was involved in the development of the Adult Diversion and Direct Accountability programs. She led the Intermittent program in partnership with Niagara Detention Centre. She enjoyed her work with health and safety. Since retirement, she has been volunteering with Ability Property and Maintenance in their annual fundraising day. Looking forward to continuing to serve as a member of the Board of Directors.

John Hornby
John Hornby
John currently works as a manager within the Ministry of the Attorney General and has worked in various roles within the Ontario Public Service over the past decade. John’s career experience explores the intersectionality of the criminal justice system and its impact on the community. His work has brought him throughout the GTHA and the province, with several projects in the Niagara area. John has also volunteered his time in community youth basketball, both as a coach and organizer. He spends most of his free time with his family and friends enjoying the outdoors, fishing, canoeing, and traveling in northern Ontario.

Kelli Nicholson
Kelli Nicholson
Kelli Nicholson, MSW, RSW is a Registered Social Worker and former Niagara Regional Police Service officer with over 20 years of experience supporting individuals affected by trauma and psychological injury. She is the founder of Lifeline for the Frontline, a private practice specializing in mental health services for first responders and frontline professionals, and co-founder of the Occupational Stress Response Collective (OSRC), which develops and supports peer support programs for emergency service organizations. Kelli has also volunteered with Badge of Life Canada, providing trauma therapy to first responders and their families. She is passionate about strengthening the mental health and well-being of individuals, organizations, and the communities they serve.

Mike Moodie
Mike Moodie
Mike Moodie is the Vice President of Operations at Workplace Safety and Prevention Services, a not-for-profit Health and Safety Association in Ontario. Previously Mike held executive positions during his 17 year career in the Ontario Public Service working at the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Ministry of Labour Immigration, Training and Skills Development and the Ministry of Finance. Mike has extensive experience leading large teams of professionals to deliver essential public services across Ontario in the areas of health and safety, regulatory compliance, healthcare and finance. Mike holds a degree in Criminal Justice and Public Policy from the University of Guelph and executive leadership certificates from Ivey Business School and Harvard Business School. During his career Mike led several major transformation initiatives by building new programs and services as well as implementing legislation to drive positive change for the people of Ontario.

Sarah Shurr
Sarah is passionate about building strong organizations and supporting services that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. With leadership experience in child and family services, she has worked collaboratively with community organizations, municipalities, and government to strengthen services and improve outcomes for children, youth, and families. Sarah brings expertise in governance, quality improvement, privacy, and organizational leadership, and is proud to serve on the Board of Directors for John Howard Society of Niagara, supporting its mission to strengthen individuals, families, and communities through prevention, rehabilitation, and community partnerships.

Steve Scriven
Steve Scriven has served on the Board for 30 years. Steve is a retired police officer, bringing a unique perspective to board discussions. He has worked on various committees including the bargaining team and is presently the Niagara representative for John Howard Ontario.
